Contact us today or keep reading if you believe your shoulder pain should be tended to by a pain specialist.
What is the best exercise for shoulder pain?
Generally, a bit of shoulder pain isn’t a big deal, and can be treated with pain relievers, rest, and icing. But it’s still important to keep in mind that shoulder pain can become worse and chronic if it isn’t treated properly and professionally. While there are some things you may be able to do to address shoulder pain yourself, you should see a professional about it, especially if your pain has been lasting for a long while now. So long as your pain is not severe, there are some exercises we can teach you, but you’ll need to learn how to do them in-person so you don’t injure yourself further. Or if your pain is more significant, you may need to seek urgent care or even emergency care in some cases.
The exercises involved in physical therapy can be especially therapeutic for shoulder pain, but again, exercises should be taught in-person.
How do I know if my shoulder pain is serious?
There are some instances when shoulder pain requires emergency care at the ER (emergency room). When the pain is accompanied by difficulty breathing or a sense of tightness in the chest, these may be signs of a heart attack.
Also, shoulder pain should be handled by urgent care or emergency care if it was caused by an injury and is accompanied by:
- A joint that looks like it’s deformed
- An inability to move the affected arm away from your body
- An inability to use the joint
- Pain that seems severe
- Swelling that seems quite sudden
When should I see a shoulder specialist?
For other cases of shoulder pain, including shoulder pain that has lasted for many months, we can help you here at Integrative Medical Group of Texas. In fact, if your pain has lasted any longer than 3 months, then this kind of pain is chronic pain that must be treated professionally. Or maybe your shoulder pain is minor acute pain and not chronic? If this is the case, and if your pain is accompanied by swelling, redness, and warmth and tenderness around the joint, you can come see us. You should definitely come see us if your pain isn’t managed with self care. Our shoulder specialists understand pain and how to treat it with integrative medicine which include conventional, alternative, and therapeutic treatments.
